The Sydney Light Rail

Project completion timeframe
Fee Zone Completed (Surry Hills)
Service Strikes During Excavation

This contract required the construction of a stormwater management system within Fee Zone 18 (Surry Hills, NSW) and material haulage over various other fee zones.

ACSG managed key and critical constraints and restrictions during the works including:

Existing utilities – The Sydney CBD is renowned for its myriad of subsurface utilities. Some of these are known, while others can come as a surprise (we acknowledge that utility records are not always accurate). ACSG followed through with the required due diligence by undertaking DYBD, site scanning, and service identification works prior to excavation. This ensured that in situ services were protected while stormwater works were undertaken.

Other Contractors – The site, like many, was shared by various subcontractors. Works had been scheduled by the Principal Contractor in a way where our works overlapped with other works. ACSG ensured, through effective communication and resource management, that we were able to work both with and around other contractors in the geometrically constrained site boundary.

Client Uncertainty – The number of unknown services and slow progress of other contractors meant that the client was constantly having to reschedule ACSG works. Because of our methodical approach, undertaking of the works, flexibility with resources, and effective communication with the client, we were able to manage expectations and ensure the ACSG scope was undertaken in the most time-effective manner, helping the client achieve their programme targets.
